On the morning of August 31st, Mr. LiangZhu, the national inheritor of Gambiered Guangdong silk dyeing and finishing technology,officially took two post-90s as his apprentices. The two apprentices will concentrate on learning GambieredGuangdong silk dyeing and finishing, inheritingthe technology with craftsman spirit.
Thanks to decades’ support from thegovernment and all sectors of the society, GambieredGuangdong silk industry in Foshan has been well protected and developed. In2008, Gambiered Guangdong silk dyeing and finishing technology was included inthe national intangible cultural heritage list; in 2018, the NationalIntellectual Property Administration approved the registration of "LunjiaoGambiered Guangdong silk" with geographical indication certificationtrademark. Mr. Liang Zhu was also recognized by the National Ministry ofCulture and Tourism as "Representative Inheritor of National IntangibleCultural Heritage Project--Gambiered Guangdong Silk Dyeing and FinishingTechnology".
Although GambieredGuangdong silk industry has made steady progress, lack of inheritors andinnovation poses great threat to a promising development of the industry. 85-year-old Mr. Liang Zhu realizes that younginheritors are vital to its surviving and thriving.
Therefore, Liang Zhu decided to formallytake on apprentices, hoping to call on more young people to join theinheritance and protection of Gambiered Guangdong silk.
Inheritthe Gambiered Guangdong silk with craftsman spirit
On the morning of August 31st,when most schools started, "National Inheritor of GambieredGuangdong Silk Dyeing and Finishing Technology Mr. Liang Zhu’s Apprentice-takingCeremony” was held in Lunjiao, Shunde.
At the ceremony, the leaders of two local Gambiered Guangdong silkenterprises were formally apprenticed to Mr. Liang Zhu. They will learn,inherit and pass down the Gambiered Guangdong silk dyeing and finishingtechnology.
It is reported that the two disciples areboth post-90s. When they were young, they heard a lot of GambieredGuangdong silk as there were elders in their families engaged in relatedindustries. They have developed passion for the industry, determined to masterGambiered Guangdong silk dyeing and finishing technology.
