Foshan China 2021-03-16
Last Spring, more than 42,000 frontline workers from 340 medical teams embarked on a history-making battle in Wuhan against COVID-19. There were cherry blossoms, but nobody was there to enjoy.
Wuhan looks fresher with scent cherry blossoms
For this year, it would be a turnaround – Wuhan University launched a “cherry blossoms show”, lasting from March 13rd to 14th, exclusively for medical staff who worked in frontline to save lives all across China.

Till March 14th, more than 20,000 medical staff and their family members have signed up.

Commemorative medals for medical workers
Foshan medical teams, a strong part in fighting the pandemic, were one of those visitors. On March 14th, a welcoming ceremony held in Wuhan University, Foshan “battle heroes” received special commemorative medals during a sing-along to a patriotic anthem “Me and My Motherland” (《我和我的祖国》).
After a sweet encounter with cherry blossoms, Foshan medical teams watched a fascinating light show (titled “A Land of Cherry Blossom, A City of Heroes”) staged in Yangtze River. In honor of their remarkable moves, medical workers involved in the pandemic control can enjoy free entry to all A-level tourist attractions in Hubei Province after 42,000 "Lingxiu Hubei Give-back Cards" were issued by the local government last year.
Foshan team’s revisit to Wuhan No.1 Hospital
Foshan team’s revisit to Wuhan No.1 Hospital, a designated hospital for severe coronavirus cases, brought tons of memories back. The team have prepared some specialty products to their Wuhan friends - Manggong Cake, Stewed Milk Beancurd, Cantonese sausages…. Markedly, 3 “dancing lion” ceramics, engraved with “Long Live for the Friendship of Jiangcheng and Chancheng” at the bottom, show special implications for Foshan-Wuhan collaborative efforts against the virus.
As recalled by Ling Jing from the Foshan No.2 People's Hospital, “We were telling jokes to some volunteers this morning about how we don’t need guide in this hospital. We know everything here - every corner, which elevator leads to which patient room…. Everything was just like yesterday.” After the lockdown, everything here in Wuhan has got back to normal – diagnosed patients are getting treatments, doctors and nurses are working hard, and people are living in health and order.

In memory of the special friendship between Foshan and Wuhan medical workers, on the Tree-Planting Day (March 12nd), more than 30 medical staff that joined the battle last year gathered in Zhouweiwei Wetland Park to plant trees of purple violet. When the flowers blooms, Foshan will invite Wuhan medical workers for a "return visit".
Next time, it will be another encounter for heroes in the lovely season of Spring - to memorize, to thank and to grow.
