On October 15, 2024, a press conference was held for the China Open (Foshan) and the Foshan Open Tennis Tournament, announcing that the event will kick off on November 1 at the Century Lotus Sports Center Tennis Court in Foshan. This three-day event will feature numerous amateur players from across the country competing in exciting matches.

This year marks the fourth consecutive year that Foshan has hosted a CTA 500-level event of the China Open. As a highly popular tournament in this category, the registration for the Foshan event has over 280 participants already signed up. During the tournament, more than 300 tennis players from all over the country are expected to participate, with categories for men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles. The total prize money for the athletes is set at 300,000 RMB.

A key focus for the organizers is how to organically combine the tennis event with Foshan's urban culture and citizens' daily lives. To promote the integration of culture, tourism, and sports, during the event, Foshan Sanlongwan China-Europe Culture Week and other activities will be held simultaneously, bringing rich experience to the audience.

This year's China Open in Foshan is not only a high-level tennis competition but also an important activity marking one year until Foshan hosts the National Games. As one of the venues for the National Games next year, Foshan is actively advancing various preparatory works.

"This year's Foshan event will uphold the high standards of organization and service seen in previous editions, while also enhancing the scale and activities of the competition," said Liu Gongping, a researcher from the Foshan Cultural, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau. He emphasized that Foshan aims to use this event to strengthen collaboration with Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, fostering the development of sports and the sports industry. "We will invest more, improve facilities, and elevate our events, contributing to the success of the National Games."

Tennis in Foshan has seen significant development in recent years. Currently, Foshan has approximately 265 tennis courts covering an area of around 160,000 square meters, with a tennis population of 15,000. Foshan has established 20 tennis clubs and 8 schools recognized as national youth tennis characteristic schools. There are 100 certified coaches and 152 registered tennis players recognized by the provincial sports bureau, forming a relatively complete talent training system for tennis.
