With the Spring Festival approaching, the busy season of Chencun tangerine trees fields has arrived. On the morning of January 10, more than 50 pots of tangerines participating for the "2024 Chencun Tangerine Trees Creation Competition" in the Tangerine Culture Exhibition Hall of Chencun attracted an endless stream of citizens to visit.

Tangerine Trees King of the Year

After a meticulous review and fair scoring by the judges, the No. 55 tangerine tree presented by the brothers Liang Guanglin and Liang Guangrong won the crown of "Tangerine Trees King of the Year". This is a 1.2-meter vermillion tangerine tree, with a crown breadth of about 2 meters and a height of about 3.8 meters. The fruit is ruddy, the leaves are green, and the tangerine fruit is evenly distributed. The shape is natural, straight and full of vitality.

The competition aims to showcase the traditional and innovative nature of the New Year tangerine trees industry, promote the integration of the New Year tangerine trees planting technology and modern aesthetics, fully display the cultural connotation of Chencun as the "Hometown of New Year Tangerine Trees", and launch the cultural concept of "Chinese people's own holiday tree".

Chencun farmers grew "Big Mac" sugar tangerines, which are sweet and refreshing.

The competition is divided into traditional New Year tangerine trees group, creative landscape group and modeling group. In the traditional New Year tangerine trees group, 60cm or above is classified in the large-size group, 55cm or below is recognized as the medium and small-size group. However, the creative landscape group and modeling group have no restrictions on size and variety.

The tangerine tree works

On the day of the opening ceremony of the 40th Chencun New City Flower Market (January 31), the "New Year Tangerine Tree King" will be auctioned, and charitable enterprises/units will be invited to participate in the charity bidding, continuing to fulfill the public welfare and benefit farming policy.

It is generally believed that Chencun Town has a history of New Year tangerine tree plantation for nearly a thousand years, and it is known as the "Hometown of New Year Tangerine Tress ". On September 5, 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs approved the registration and protection of "Chencun New Year tangerine tress" as a national agricultural geographical indication. In 2019, the New Year Tangerine Tress Association was established in Chencun, relying on Chencun Flower Characteristic Town and the "Internet + Agriculture" pattern, promoting the transformation, upgrading and the standardized production of the New Year tangerine tress industry.

After years of development, New Year tangerine tress has become an iconic geographical brand of Chencun agriculture and an important carrier to showcase the image of Chencun.
