The new terminal at Foshan Airport has reached a significant construction milestone, successfully topped out on May 21. This marks the near completion of the main structure, bringing the project closer to its anticipated operational launch in the first half of 2024.

Project Overview

The new terminal, funded by China United Airlines with an investment exceeding 100 million yuan, spans an impressive 8,060 square meters with a total building area of 11,395 square meters. Designed with modernity and sustainability at its core, the terminal employs an innovative modular construction method.

Innovative and Sustainable Design

The modular construction technique used in the new terminal highlights its forward-thinking design. This method allows for both easy assembly and disassembly, making the structure adaptable for relocation and reuse. This aligns with contemporary low-carbon, sustainable building practices, underlining Foshan's commitment to environmentally friendly infrastructure.

Swift Progress and Anticipated Benefits

Since breaking ground on February 27, 2024, the construction has advanced at a remarkable pace. The topping out ceremony signifies that the main construction phase is nearly complete. The terminal is on track to open in the first half of 2024, promising to enhance the travel experience for passengers with more comfortable and efficient services.

Once operational, the new terminal will serve as a crucial hub, improving connectivity and establishing a more extensive air network for Foshan.

Future Prospects

As an interim facility ahead of the airport's eventual relocation, the new terminal is designed to adapt to future needs. Its modular nature allows for potential relocation to new sites or integration into other infrastructure projects, showcasing a versatile and sustainable approach to airport construction.

The new terminal at Foshan Airport represents a significant step forward in enhancing the region's aviation infrastructure. As an interim structure before the permanent relocation of Foshan Shadi Airport, the new terminal is built to accommodate up to 2.6 million domestic passengers annually by 2028.
