Li Family’s Lion Dance Appeared in CCTV

"Li familys lion dance personalizes and characterizes the lion by making them like Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, showing inclusive and diversified characteristics of Chinese culture, " a spring festival special program of CCTV called "I Have a Family Heirloom " paid attention to Li familys lion dance recently.

 

"I Have a Family Heirloom " is a cultural collecting program,  launched by CCTV-1 in 2016. Based on a family heirloom, the program tells family stories about inheritance and shows Chineses essential etiquette culture to the audience. On Feb. 4th, Li Wanzhen and Zhou Jiaxin gave a performance of li familys lion dance in the program and won experts admiration.

 

The lion dance is different in different districts. Nanshi (lion dance in the south) is called Xingshibecause of its attractive appearance. Foshan is the cradle of Nanshi and Li familys lion dance is the most representative one in Foshan. Li famliys  tradition of making lion head has been almost 200 years since Li Huizhen, the first generation descendant of Li family opened a "Li Xiangxin Workshop" in Qing Dynasty. Now Li family is the only one family who keeps making lion head for five generations in Foshan. In 2008, Foshan lion head became the national intangible cultural heritage.
