Chancheng parade squad appeared in Cape Town Carnival

Lingnan-style floats, dragon dance and lion dance squad from Foshan Chancheng were showed on the the 8th Cape Town Carnival on March 18.

There were over 100,000 visitors attracted to the Carnival in the main parade area of down-town. Visitors walked on the streets and celebrated the Carnival together. Among all the teams, Chinese cultural team has won praise from different parties.

Its the first time that Cape Town government invited Chinese overseas to organize the Carnival parade which was under the instruction of Chen Jianliang, a committee member of Foshan Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and vice president of Chancheng Overseas Elite Students Promotion Association.

    

Chancheng elements has shaped a special scenery during the boisterous celebration. Huaxing Art troupe, as a domain team from Consulate-General of the Peoples Republic of China in Cape Town, a team with nearly 300 people has presented the “Two dragons compete for the ball”, “Lion group dancing”, “Imposing gongs and drums” , dragon float parade and other performance embraced with Foshan traditional folk culture, being the highlight on that day.

 

After the parade was finished, Chen Jianliang gifted a silk banner and overseas Chinese Journal Home and Abroad of Chancheng to Kang Yong, Consul General of Consulate-General of the Peoples Republic of China in Cape Town. The silk banner was printed with “A bosom friend afar brings a distant land near”, symbolizing Chinese overseas united as a big family.

 

During the stay in Cape Town, Chen Jianliang also communicated with 16 associations of Overseas Chinese, including Guangdong Chamber of Commerce, Fujian Chamber of Commerce, Zhejiang-Shanghai-Hangzhou Overseas Friendship Association, Huaxing Art Troupe and etc., with a purpose to promote the development achievements in economy, culture, environment and city and he also warmly invited those overseas leaders to visit Foshan.
