Jiujiang Dragon Boat Listed as the only Chinese Sports Culture Excellent Folk Project in GD

2023 China Sports Tourism Expo and China Culture Expo was held from December 8-10. The list of 2023 Chinese Sports Culture Excellent Projects was announced at the event. Jiujiang Dragon Boat stood out from 338 projects across the country, and successfully won the 2023 Chinese Sports Culture Excellent Folk Project, which is the only one from Guangdong Province.



The Chinese Sports Culture Excellent Projects have the characteristics of profound cultural deposits, distinct local features, vast participation and large publicity, showing the unique charm of Chinese sports culture to the whole society.


From 2008 to 2023, the Nanhai Jiujiang Dragon boat team has won a total of 765 medals. It has participated in the Asian Games, National Games, World Championships, Asian Championships and other major events on behalf of the country for 24 times. In particular, it participated in the National Games on behalf of Guangdong Province in 2021 and won six gold medals. It won four gold medals for Foshan in the 2022 Guangdong Provincial Sport Games. Additionally, it also took part in the 16th World Championships in 2023 and won two gold medals and two silver medals.



Jiujiang dragon boat culture has been passed down for hundreds of years, and dragon boat race is a traditional folk activity with profound cultural heritage in Jiujiang.


As the first "dragon boat town" in China, the dragon boat culture of Jiujiang originates from the watertown living pattern.



Nowadays, Jiujiang is striving to create the super IP "Jiujiang Dragon", further enriching the dragon boat water sports research project. Meanwhile, it aims to build a complete dragon boat industry chain and cultural tourism route, covering various fields such as dragon boat production, dragon boat training, dragon boat theme catering, dragon boat cultural creation shop. Eventually, it targets at creating "intangible cultural heritage demonstration area" and exploring a new way of rural revitalization and "culture + commerce" development.
