On August 21, the scheme of new Nanhai Library was released on the construction mobilization meeting. Located by the Qiandenghu Lake, the new library, covering 220k square meters, is designed by Ieoh Ming Pei's Team.

Served as one building of Nanhai Cultural Center Complex, it consists 8 floors, with 1 basement and 7 floors above ground. It is expected to operate by the end of 2024.

According to the scheme, the exterior appearance of the new library has adopted modern style, emphasizing the concept of "less is more". Regarding the interior decoration, it is based on the warm color brought by woods, creating a light, comfortable and relaxing environment.

Apart from the exterior appearance, it has equipped four intelligent systems: rail transmission system, book indexing system, vertical sorting system and three-dimensional storage system. Remarkably, rail transmission system was embbed in the main structure, allowing automatic sorting of returned books.

Stated by Chenyuan, curator of Nanhai Library, the new library will follow the concept of "Open, Intelligent, Mutual, Innovative", striving to create a one-stop reading service platform for all citizens at all ages.
