Good news comes on June 30 that the Foshan West Railway Station to Guangzhou North Station section of the Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line (hereinafter referred to as "Guang-Fo West Ring") officially entered the shield tunneling construction phase. It is expected to be completed by 2027.

The Guang-Fo West Ring project is a vital component of the Pearl River Delta intercity rail transit network, serving as a crucial geographical connector between the central urban areas of Guangzhou and Foshan.

The Guang-Fo West Ring project spans approximately 47 kilometers, starting from Foshan West Railway Station and passing through following areas: Shishan Town, Lishui Town in Nanhai District, Foshan; Tanbu Town, Xiuquan Sub-district in Huadu District (Guangzhou) , and Jianggao Town in Baiyun District (Guangzhou); and ending at Guangzhou North Station. The line includes seven newly constructed stations, namely Shishan East Station, Dalan Station, Guanyao South Station, Hegui Station, Tanbu Station, Huadu Port Station, and Shenshan North Station.　

Remarkably, the Guang-Fo West Ring project is a crucial component of the Guang-Fo Ring Line, providing fast rail transit connectivity between Foshan and Guangzhou Airport Economic Zone.

"We have a total of four shield tunneling machines involved in the construction. By now, we have launched two of them, and it is expected that the other two will be launched in late July or early August. The project commenced in September last year and it is scheduled to be completed in 2027, with a construction period of five years," said He Ting, Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Guangzhou Metro Group's Railway Investment Company.

In the Guang-Fo Ring Line, the northern segment (from Baiyun International Airport North Station to Guangzhou North Railway Station) was launched in November 2020. The southern segment (from Foshan West Railway Station to Guangzhou South Railway Station) is currently undergoing static testing. The eastern segment (from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Baiyun International Airport North Station) is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The western section (from Foshan West Railway Station to Guangzhou North Railway Station) has already started construction.

The Guang-Fo West Ring is a key intercity railway project in Guangzhou urban area, which will greatly support the economic and social development of the Guangzhou-Foshan urban area, and it plays a crucial role in promoting the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
