Recently, IFLA announced that Foshan Library won the IFLA Green Library Award 2018.The Foshan Library stood out from the 32 submissions around the world and got the first place.
    
 
IFLA listed the award-winning reasons of Foshan Library as follows:
    
“The Foshan Library is a culturally significant building in harmony with the prevailing landscape, and which delivers a compelling architectural vision that pays homage to the a cultural and artistic history of the region. The history and its services are strengthened by a powerful commitment to substainable principles which extends to the architectural design, buliding materials, managements, and staff commitment to continuous improvement and community education. The library presents an impressice array of engaging and inspiring green programs for its community.”
   
The top award among the global libraries
   
The IFLA Green Library Award is the top award presented by IFLA in the field of the world’s libraries. It aims to reward the best Green Library submission that communicates the library’s commitment to environmental sustainability; to increase awareness of libraries’ social responsibility and leadership in environmental education.
     
The 2018 awards event received 32 submissions from around the world, including China, the United States, France, India and etc.
   
Overview of Foshan Library 
  
Foshan Library has always been a major cultural landscape in Foshan, with a collection of 3 million volumes, nearly 3,000 Chinese and foreign newspapers, multiple large databases and 2,500 reading seats. The average daily reception exceeds 4,000 readers. Foshan Library treats more than 1 million readers per year and holds more than 1,000 cultural events.

On the basis of utilizing the collection resources, Foshan Library also took the lead in building the city's joint library as a center library. Not long ago, it was praised by the central media! On July 12, Central Kitchen of the People's Daily reported that Foshan Library has linked to the cultural resources of various parties and government departments, such as farmhouse bookstores, staff bookstores, cultural centers, etc.,in order to coordinate resources, exchange information, and promote the development of civil reading.
   
Over the years, Foshan Library has been committed to the improvement and enhancement of reader service and reading promotion and has become the most influential and attractive public cultural institution in Foshan.
