“Foshan Dragon” achieves great scores at World Dragon Boat Racing Championship

Yesterday (Oct.18), dragon boat racing fans all around the world gathered in Kunming to take part in the 13th World Dragon Boat Racing Championship. 22 groups of the 2,000-meter round-trip race competed together. Chinese team achieved 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals in total.

  

As an international dragon boat competition with the highest level, the World Dragon Boat Racing Championship was held in China for the second time after 12 years, which attracted more than 2,500 athletes from 24 countries and regions to participate in. 95% of the athletes were non-Chinese.

  

As the host of this championship, Chinese Longzhou Association sent 9 teams. Teams from Shunde District and Nanhai District, Foshan, Guangdong took part in competitions of multiple projects. On the first day, competing with lots of strong rivals, Foshan dragon boat elites achieved 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal at the 2,000-meter round-trip competition that was of their advantages.

  

Lao Jianhui, leader of Shunde Lecong Dragon Boat Club said that at the 2,000-meter round-trip race, Foshans best score was third prize in 2013. Foshan dragon boat won the gold medals of two groups, elite open standard dragon boat and senior open A group standard dragon boat, which created a new historical record.

  

Today (Oct.19) there will be competitions of the 1,000-meter race. The World Dragon Boat Racing Championship will be finished on Oct.22.
