There will be still of high possibility of torrential rains in the near future, although the rainstorm did not hit most parts of Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province, before Wednesday noon, according to the local meteorological service authorities.

The entire area of Guangdong is still in a very favorable position for rain, as predictions of rainstorms is based on the onset of monsoon season, according to the sources with the Guangzhou Meteorological Service.

Since Tuesday night, rainstorms had been pouring down outside of the southern, northern and western areas of Guangzhou, with the city's northern Conghua district having already issued red warning signals, the highest level of the four-tiered warning system.

As of Wednesday noon, red warning signals for torrential rains in five more areas within Guangdong, located in the Zhuhai and Qingyuan cities, have taken effect, according to the Guangdong Meteorological Service.

"This is the traditional problem of rainstorm prediction – the falling area," said a microblog message by the Guangzhou Meteorological Service.

The meteorological service authority called on local residents to pay more attention to the latest forecast and early warning information as it is closely monitoring rainfalls.

Local authorities in several cities including Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang and Zhaoqing have suspended classes in kindergartens, primary and high schools from Wednesday to Thursday.
