Recently, as the opening show on Shunde Night Culture & Art Festival 2021 (2021年“顺德之夜”文化艺术盛荟) , "Butterfly", a modern acrobatic stage play, was staged at Shunde Performing Arts Center. Divided in two sessions of Foshan’s rural reconstruction and pandemic prevention & control, the show was dedicated to those frontline workers, who fought tirelessly upgrading industrial parks or treating patients. The show served as a give-back that inspireed Shunde People to work together for more high-quality development.
Initiated by the local government in 2019, Shunde Night Culture & Art Festival is an annual premium art festival that introduces spectacular stage plays to audiences in Shunde. Shows and performances each year are well-received among viewers and local media. The event, supported by extensive publicity, has become a “cultural icon” for Shunde –an artistry of elegance.
The stage play "Butterfly" is another large-scale acrobatic drama, presented by Guangzhou Acrobatic Art Theatre, after "Journey to the West" (《西游记》) and " The Legendary Swordsman"(《笑傲江湖》). The crew invited one of the top artists and producers to ensure its quality. On the basis of multiple art forms, such as acrobatics, dance, and drama, the play did a great job in telling Chinese stories in a modern way.
"Butterfly" uses the classic love story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai (hereinafter referred to “Liang Zhu” as its basic storyline. By associating metamorphosis (a biological phenomenon that butterflies get free after breaking through cocoons) with the Liang Zhu’s epic love across life and death, "Butterfly" depicted a process that involves birth, incubation, resistance, and breaking free from “a cocoon”.
The crew behind "Butterfly" has spent two years sparkling ideas to make the show more fun. 32 acrobatics were incorporated to deliver an exciting visual experience – Group Fan Dance, Umbrellas Juggling, Brush Pen Techniques, Wire Walking and so on.
