On September 17, Foshan Municipal Government and Tsinghua University signed a cooperative agreement and held a launching ceremony to jointly build the Center for High Performance Materials of Tsinghua University Foshan Advanced Manufacturing Research Institute. This cooperation will provide scientific and technological support for Foshan to develop a new-material industry and build modern economic system.

According to Foshan Technology Bureau, Foshan will invest 500 million yuan to build the Foshan (South China) New Materials Research Institute in Guicheng, Nanhai. With the support of talents and technology provided by Tsinghua University Material Institute, Foshan will build an international first-class material research platform and an innovative base for deeply integrated industry-university-research.

In recent years, Foshan gives key support to new-pillar industries surrounding the overall construction of national innovation city, creating a national manufacturing innovation center, vigorously implementing innovation-driven development strategy and new materials industry.

Currently Foshan has formed a profound and characteristic material industry, Foshans new materials industry has developed eight major fields including electronic information materials, advanced composite materials, new functional materials, high-performance structural materials, new building materials, new chemical materials, biomedical materials and new energy materials. And advanced ceramic materials, ecological environment materials, intelligent materials, nano materials are characteristic among them.

Tsinghua University is able to provide Foshan new materials industry with talents, technology and other innovative resources. Tsinghua University Materials Institute has taken the lead in world-class disciplines.

In addition, Tsinghua University will arrange corresponding students to carry out scientific research and practical tasks in the research institute, so that an interactive atmosphere can be formed among Foshan industry development and Tsinghua University personnel training. With the basic scientific research and applied research projects of the institute, Foshan has added a new talents training platform.
