On October 20th, IKEA, an international brand that offers furniture and home goods, announced to start the construction for its logistic center in Yanghe Town of Gaoming Foshan, adding more momentum to its global supply chain.
With an input of 1 billion yuan, the project covers a total area of 160,000 ㎡. Positioned as IKEAs R&D, manufacturing, transportation, warehousing and logistic center in South China, the center has a lot of roles to play - import and export, trade settlement, logistics distribution, quality inspection and so on. As IKEAs key hub in South China, the location boasts full coverage - not only provinces like Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hunan in Chinese mainland, but also Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and countries in Southeast Asia.
In terms of construction, the main body will be a high-standard warehouse with 42 meters in height, coupled with high shelves with as many as 19 to 20 floors. On the management level, all inventory will be shipped in a flat-panel package which was invented by IKEA to improve storage and utilization rate. Noticeably, IKEA will also be running a global automated warehouse management system, which makes it possible to go through the entire process in the warehouse with no human intervention.
In addition, the project is also guided by environmental awareness as it follows the standards required by BREEAM green building assessment system. All warehouses and offices will use LED lights for illumination and forklifts lithium batteries for power. On the roof, sets of photovoltaic panels will be installed, and rain recycling and waste disposal systems will be in place when the project is finished.
In the coming years, home to another international airport in Pearl River Delta, Gaoming will work to provide better corporate services and foster an inclusive business environment in a way that pushes for more progress in the IKEA project.
