A few days ago, a bird with brownish neck and chest, canary lower body and white patches on wings was discovered by a researcher at Yundonghai National Wetland Park in Sanshui District. After scrutiny on taken pictures, the bird turned out to be a yellow-breasted bunting (also termed as Emberiza Aureola)! Once included as endangered species on Red List of Threatened Species set by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the species of bird is now under first-class national protection in China.

Although it is still unable to estimate the number of this kind of birds in the wetland park, it is a sign that the eco-environment nearby is getting better and better in recent years.

As 72 species of birds have been discovered in the park so far, the park now is well known as the “Paradise of Birds”.

Actually, such achievements can’t be possible without the effort by the local government, who has been working on water quality, plantation and eco-system.

With virtual reality systems and real-time bird monitors, the tech-based park is now paving ways for general education about wetland and birds.

Recommended spots: Mid-Lake Island of Moon Lake, the wetland where Moon Lake and North Lake meet and Yangmeichong Wetland, Yundonghai National Wetland Park  (月亮湖湖心岛、月亮湖和云东海北湖交界处的滩涂地、杨梅涌滩涂地)

Recommended hours: 6 a.m.-7 a.m., 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
