Humberto Valles, a Mexican-American businessman who has worked in ceramic industry in Foshan for more than a decade, believes that it is important for this local traditional industry to accept innovation on both products and minds.
Besides, to optimize the business environment, it is necessary to improve mechanism for communication and consultation between government and businesses.

Humberto Valles，在将近20年前凭借前瞻性眼光看中佛山潜力，以“就是这里了”的决心选择佛山。此次，他将结合自身丰富的从商经历，就企业需要怎样的营商环境和政府服务等话题，分享自己的见解。
Humberto Valles，美籍墨西哥人，在美国、墨西哥、中国三地工作和生活多年，在陶瓷行业有着30多年的从业经验。原为北美最大陶瓷运营商Interceramic公司高层，2006年在佛山创立Interceramic驻中国办事处，现任ICC瓷砖中国总经理。

When I made my first trip, the thing that impressed me the most was the size of the factories. I was not used to see factories that big.
当我第一次来佛山的时候，我印象最深刻的是这里工厂的规模。我当时很少看到规模如此大的工厂。
What is the salient problem that local ceramic industry has to solve on its path of innovative development?
佛山陶瓷行业创新发展，要突破什么问题？
We saw the industry was lacking a different kind of player. I don’t think they are willing to take a lot of risk to do something more original, unique or different. I think the industry should focus more on innovation and creativity rather than volume and sales. Besides, the industry should invest more money into R&D and produce products with more international appeal.
我认为本地的陶瓷企业太过于同质化。企业不愿意承受创新的风险，去研发一些与众不同的原创产品。我认为企业应该更加注重创新创造，而非只关注产量销量。可以加大科研投入，针对国际市场的需求，生产出更具有国际市场吸引力的产品。
What do you think the government can do to improve the business environment? 您认为佛山政府该如何优化营商环境呢？
Maybe the government could think about creating some sort of focused groups with foreign community. They can meet with us and hear our opinions and stories and needs and see how they can help us. Because at the end of the day, it’s a win-win situation.
政府可以考虑组织外籍人士建一个讨论小组，定期会面，听听我们的意见、看法和诉求。这其实一种互利共赢的模式。
“我在佛山看到了未来，这里有企业发展的沃土。而且说实话，我当年还低估了佛山的潜力”——佛山高质、高速的发展刷新了Humberto对佛山营商环境的看法。
Humberto还从政商共赢的角度出发，提议组建政商讨论小组，定期会面，让政府充分及时了解、解决企业发展过程中的痛点、难点、堵点，切实提升市场主体的满意度，提升佛山营商吸引力。
