"Keep a distance. 1 meter. Get your nucleic acid code ready." On April 13th, a nucleic acid testing site at Vanke Crystal City in Chencun Town saw something interesting happen - a foreign girl, hardly fluent in Mandarin, was keeping lines in order or helping a few seniors with their nucleic acid code. Joining the volunteer team was a new attempt for here. A couple of days ago, Lily decided on that after the nucleic acid test.

Lily, from Russia, works now as a teacher at Desheng Kindergarten in Shunde, Foshan. On April 11, Shunde carried out mass nucleic acid testing, in correspondence with pandemic prevention and control. That morning at the sampling site at Jiaxin City Plaza in Daliang Sub-district, Lily noticed the medical team on the spot were actually understaffed, overloaded with the number of people waiting in lines. Later on, she went to ask the staff whether she could join as a volunteer.

"When they told me they were looking for volunteers, they asked when I could come and help. I just said right now and put on my gear." Lily said.

After a day at the frontline, Lily feels quite related to the medical staff. As offline teaching was suspended for now, she decided to spend more time volunteering and give back to her beloved community.

Lily has now been in Shunde for 2 years. Surrounded by nice people, food and scenery, she felt proud of being a part of this neighborhood that has inspired her so much. “I really appreciate what the medical workers have done for us so far. I hope that the pandemic will go away as soon as possible. Then I can have lots of crayfish and everyone can go to work, have a trip and enjoy food, unconcerned.” Lily smiled and said.
