The well-known Cantonese opera "The Mad Phoenix" premiered at Foshan Qionghua Grand Theater has been well received by the audience. Three tour shows will be held in Hong Kong and a national tour is on its schedule to introduce the profound Lingnan culture to the public.
Derived from the Cantonese stage drama, The Mad Phoenix has shown to the public for more than 150 times since its debut in 1993. Since 2014, the Cantonese opera has been toured in Hong Kong, Beijing, Foshan and other places, reaching millions of audiences.
Based on real story in reality, the Cantonese opera tells the twists and turns of Yi Hai’s life, who integrates Cantonese opera, Lingnan cuisine, Guangdong and Hong Kong (regional) culture into Chinese traditional art, making it a best representative work to show the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
"I have a special liking for the film version of The Mad Phoenix, and its my mission to bring this local opera to the stage.” Li Shuqin, president of the Foshan Cantonese Theatre, said that The Mad Phoenix based on local cultural characteristics will create a cultural name card for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
