The construction of Foshan-Guangzhou-Dongguan intercity railway will start in 2022. 

The total length of Foshan-Guangzhou-Dongguan intercity railway is about 126.6 km, of which Dongguan section is 36.7 km. It will go through 29 stations in the whole journey and 8 stations are in Dongguan, which are: Dongpo Station in Zhongtang Town, Jiaoli Station in Zhongtang Town, Wanjiang Station, Guancheng Station, Hongfu Road Station, Huangqi South Station, Liaobu Station, and Songshan Lake Station. Moreover, there’s a parking lot in Yutang (玉堂). 

The line has 29 stations in which 8 stations are in Dongguan. 

The Foshan-Guangzhou-Dongguan inter-city railway was once designed to be a 160 km/h commuter express. After upgrading adjustment, the rail will be constructed to a "n" shape from the original horizontal axis linking Foshan, Guangzhou and Dongguan. The new route will connect Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhuhai and Jiangmen, which will not only become an artery of transportation in Grater Bay Area, but also promoting the rapid integration of resources, technology, capital and talents in the GBA. 

It is known that Foshan-Guangzhou-Dongguan intercity railway is being optimized and will be extended to Shenzhen by adjusting the line direction of Changping-Longhua intercity railway, which to develop a central rail in the GBA, that is Guangzhou-Shenzhen central intercity railway. When the two intercity railways are connected, an intercity rail will be formed to quickly connect the the four cities downtown areas and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen science and technology innovation corridor, which will significantly shorten the transportation time in an hour.
