Today (November 1), the grand folk event "Foshan Qiuse Parade" officially kicked off, featuring a spectacular opening ceremony with the Autumn Rituals in Ancestral Temple in Chancheng District, where numerous citizens gathered to witness this lively occasion.

The imposing "Heavenly Soldiers" of the Northern Emperor's ceremonial guard made a striking entrance to the sound of traditional music played on the ancient Eight-Tone Gongs and Drums, marking the beginning of the Autumn Rituals.

Following this, a group of Lingnan "fairies" gracefully danced while holding various offerings of fresh and dried fruits, rice cakes, and prayer cakes, presenting them to the North Emperor in hopes of a bountiful harvest.

The Northern Emperor's ceremonial guard is notable for its rich variety and complete set, being the only fully preserved ceremonial ensemble of its kind in the country. From intricately carved golden wooden plaques to bronze ceremonial treasures and weapons, the ensemble showcased a solemn and majestic presence.

"Ancestral Temple in Foshan, established during the Song Dynasty, with the Northern Emperor in residence, displays remarkable divine authority!" During the ceremony, Huang Bailong, a member of the China Quyi Artists Association's Cantonese Opera Expert Committee and the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Expert Committee, expressed blessings for the Lingnan homeland and a prosperous China.

Let's take a moment to appreciate some beautiful images capturing the vibrant scene!

The "Autumn Rituals" held at the Ancestral Temple in Foshan is the earliest official ceremony dedicated to the deity Zhenwu in the Pearl River Delta and the only one in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area elevated to the status of a ceremonial rite. It has served as an important folk activity promoting interaction between the government and citizens, enhancing public happiness for nearly six hundred years.

Liang Hua, a local from Foshan, has participated in the Autumn Rituals multiple times. He shared that this year's autumn festivities incorporated many traditional elements, and the ritual practices have been well preserved. For those living outside Foshan, it is essential not only to act as ambassadors of Foshan culture but also to spread its rich traditional heritage overseas.
