In the vibrant month of autumn, Foshan once again hosts a grand cultural spectacle. On the evening of November 1, the 2024 Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Week, coupled with the Foshan Qiuse Parade Activity, commenced with a dazzling display of cultural splendor.
Qiuse Parade is a highlight of the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Week. At around 7:30 PM at the Ancestral Temple in Chancheng District, the scene was illuminated with intricate lanterns and a dazzling array of colors, set against the resonant beat of drums and the agile, majestic lion dance. The opening performance, "Drumming and Lion Dancing to Celebrate the Golden Autumn," instantly ignited the enthusiasm of the audience.
As the sound of drums echoed through the air, a festive procession made up of 48 performance groups and 18 thematic floats, hailing from various sectors in Foshan, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and sister cities under Foshan's assistance and cooperation programs, toured along a 3.3-kilometer route. The streets were filled with onlookers, creating a scene of unprecedented excitement where "everyone was out on the streets".
Let's take a look at some beautiful photos from the event!
Qiuse Parade is a traditional folk custom in Foshan, marking the harvest and showcasing achievements. It has a history of approximately 600 years and was listed in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008. With the inheritance and innovation each year, the content and form of the Qiuse Parade continue to enrich, with their scale and influence expanding accordingly.
The Qiuse Parade will also take place in Xiqiao Town, Nanhai District, on November 2 (tonight). The parade tour will start from the Xiqiao Mountain Culture Center and conclude in front of the entrance square, covering a distance of approximately 3.2 kilometers.
