On November 25, the press conference for the 2024 Nanhai Guicheng Sanshan Half Marathon and Foshan Sanlongwan Health Run was held in Guicheng, announcing that this highly anticipated sports event will officially start at 7:30 AM on December 1 at Wenhan Lake Park.
The event, with the theme of "Take the subway to run a marathon" and "A marathon right at your doorstep," aims to promote the integration of the local economy, culture, and tourism. The half marathon, covering a distance of about 21 kilometers, and the health run, approximately 8 kilometers, will pass through key areas like the Jihua Laboratory, Sanshan Innovation Center, (CTIC) and iconic landmarks such as Sanshan Forest Park, Kexin Lake, High-speed Rail Park, and Dongping Waterway Greenway.
This event creatively integrates tourism, intangible cultural heritage, creative products, exhibitions, eSports, and food into the competition. During the event, participants will have the chance to compete in the race while enjoying a range of cultural activities and culinary experiences.
With a prize pool of up to 100,000 RMB, the event has introduced a special local runner award to encourage the participation of Foshan residents. This award is open to those who hold a Foshan ID or have contributed to the city's social security system for at least six months. The top 30 male and female half marathon runners from Foshan will receive additional prizes. This initiative highlights the event's care for local participants and enhances its overall engagement and influence.
The event will feature a health run open to businesses, residents, and groups, with corporate supply stations, interactive zones, and entertainment areas along the route showcasing local enterprises and the Sanlongwan Nanhai area's resources.
It also includes a "Pacer Recruitment Program", where marathon enthusiasts and professionals from fields like tech and urban development will form a "pacer team" to lead runners throughout the race.
During the event, the "2024 Nanhai Guicheng Sanshan Half Marathon Sci-Tech & Trend Festival" will be held, upgrading the "Marathon Expo" to a "City Expo". The festival will focus on five main themes: Time Travel Machine, Power-Up Station, Marathon Kaleidoscope, Trend Play Lab, and Sci-Tech Future City. It will incorporate e-sports, music, cultural markets, fun sports, and unique dining, attracting over a hundred brands and drawing visitors from the Guangdong-HongKong-Macao Greater Bay Area and local residents to experience Foshan's culture and innovation.
The event unveiled gold-inlaid jade medals created by Guangdong Provincial Craft Art Master Shi Zongying. Featuring precious jade and gold inlays that highlight the event name and smart manufacturing elements, these collectible medals come in four styles: gold, silver, bronze, and a commemorative edition. The top 30 male and female finishers of the half-marathon will receive these medals, which will also be given to lucky participants in a blind box format.
