On February 15th, the opening ceremony of the cooperation between Shunde District and Gaoming District and the ground-breaking ceremony of infrastructure project of Airport Economic Zone (Phase I) were held in Foshan Airport Economic Zone, injecting new momentum into local economy for the first quarter of 2022.

Foshan Airport Economic Zone is located in the southeast of the Pearl River Delta International Airport (Guangzhou New Airport), with planned area of 160 square kilometers, land reserved for multiple economy, cultural and tourism industries, modern services, advanced manufacturing, and eco-friendly industries.

New Airport, New Growth Pole

As estimated, 51.785 billion yuan will be invested for the Pearl River Delta International Airport (Guangzhou New Airport). The facility will meet the highest international level of civil aviation transportation. Passenger throughput will reach 30 million by 2035 and over 60 million by 2050. In a long run, it is likely to become the third largest airport in the province, after Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and Shenzhen Baoan Airport.

For Foshan Airport Economic Zone, growth opportunity comes from various factors. First, the ongoing construction of the new airport brings more passengers, logistics, information flow. Second, Foshan, the city itself has a strong manufacturing base and close connection with other cities along the west bank of the Pearl River.

"One Zone with Three Groups" Industrial Layout: a highland for more growth

When constructed, the Foshan Airport Economic Zone will follo"greenness, efficiency, harmony and low-carbon rules", with strong potentials in "greenness, efficiency, harmony and low-carbon". By then, there will be industrial parks, functional areas, bonded areas, aviation manufacturing and air transport-related industrial cluster. In the near future, it will be built as a development highland with aviation industry and airport economy as the core and driving force, and a new window for Foshan to connect with the global economy.

The Airport Economic Zone to be developed in “One Zone with Three Groups” Layout

First, Aviation Industry Group is designated as the airport and aviation industry development area. It mainly develops aviation processing and manufacturing, aviation parts manufacturing and maintenance, aircraft modification industry, aviation logistics, and cross-border e-commerce.

Second, Intelligent Manufacturing Industry Group is designated as green, low-carbon, environmental protection and energy saving advanced manufacturing area. It mainly develops high-end manufacturing industries, including intelligent manufacturing, green environmental protection, new energy, new materials, biological medicine, and electronic information.

Third, Airport New City Group is designated as a high-end life service area. It mainly develops business travel service, aviation base, administrative office, business office, exhibition business, leisure consumption, sports, international health care, ecological residence, cultural tourism and so on.
