On March 29th, “Mulberry fields remain, long life last” – Sangyuanwei Water Artery Programme was officially launched, as well as Nanhai Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. Grounding on 58 kilometers main channel and covering an area of 16.29 square kilometers, the program aims to build one international cultural tourism resort with a world-class ecological water artery and national cultural parks.

Connecting 58 kilometers of water artery

This program is located in the western part of Nanhai District, across three towns including Danzao, Xiqiao and Jiujiang. Additionally, it connects three main hydrographic nets, 12 rivers in total.

After thousands of years, Sangyuanwei Polder Embankment System remains in use. In 2021, Sangyuanwei Polder Embankment System was recognized as one of the 7th World Heritage Irrigation Structures.

Hence, this program is raised by Nanhai District, which starts from Sangyuanwei and connects 12 rives, 8 cultural scenic spots, and 88 villages.

Building national cultural parks

Based on ecological protection, the program will refurbish the environment along the water artery and establish an ecological chain of “one mountain, two rivers, three islands”, including Xiqiao Mountain, West River, South River, Haishou Island, Haixin Island and Pingsha Island.

Restoring Lingnan water life

Cultural scenic spots are the key focus of the program. As the whole water artery is divided into 5 segments, there are 11 cultural scenic spots accordingly.

Creating one network for cruise

Additionally, stated in the program, there will be four cruise segments with different cultural features. Through the cruise, tourists could visit 8 cultural scenic spots in sequence.

The launch of Nanhai Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale

On March 29th, as one key cultural project in the program, Nanhai Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale was launched, which is expected to inaugurate this autumn. Additionally, there are 12 cultural projects signing up simultaneously.
