The Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference officially set up a special work office on Thursday in Zhuhai for its members from the Macao Special Administrative Region, which borders Zhuhai.

The Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC said in a statement it was the first time Guangdongs top political advisory body had established a special work office for members from Macao.

Meanwhile, the office is requiring its members to submit at least one high-quality proposal in the name of an individual or collective within a year, set up an individual member mailbox and establish a mechanism allowing the public to visit the members in the future, it said.

The Office for Macao Members of Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, which has been established in Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, aims to build a platform for the members from Macao to actively perform their duties, collect and reflect public opinions, and to promote and speed up economic construction of Guangdong province and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

"The establishment of the office is both a convenience and a spur for Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC members from Macao to participate in and discuss political, social and economic affairs," according to Joao Ma, a Guangdong provincial CPPCC member from Macao.

Ma served as one of the conveners of the office that includes 35 members from Macao from all walks of life. Ma, director of the Youth Committee of Macao Chamber of Commerce, said the office is a fixed place for the CPPCC members from Macao to study, investigate and exchange views collectively.

"Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC members from Macao will establish a better docking mechanism with departments in Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin through the office, providing their advice and suggestions for the expansion of cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, and helping encourage and attract more Macao residents to come to work, study and live in Hengqin island, located at the mouth of the Pearl River," he said.

Qin Dake, another member of the Guangdong provincial committee of the CPPCC, said the office will actively build itself into a platform for widely converging consensus, reflecting social conditions and public opinions, and gathering wisdom.

"It will also help further broaden the channels for the CPPCC members from Macao to contact and serve the public and contribute to the CPPCCs strength in building the cooperation zone in Hengqin," he said.
