Dragon boat race to celebrate Longtaitou Day in Shunde, Foshan

On February 21, a series of dragon boat races were held on Damen River in Daliang Sub-district, Shunde to celebrate Longtaitou Day (literally meaning "dragon raises head"). With a bustling sound of gongs and drums, nearly 300 dragon boat enthusiasts from 60 dragon boat teams in the Pearl River Delta region paddled through the waves and competed for the champion.


At 1 p.m. sharp, 60 dragon boat teams from Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Zhuhai and other places gathered at the starting point. At the word of command, with the cheers of citizens, dragon boat teams strove to the finish line.


As the race began, dragon boat team competed to rush to the finish line.

There are also dragon boat culture booth set up on the scene. Citizens can feel the profound dragon boat culture when they are watching the furious dragon boat race.


After 2 hours of intense competition, the dragon boat team from Damen Water Village took home the crown, drawing an end for the competition. Liang Weixiong, captain of the Damen dragon boat team, said he and his team members had trained for more than two months in preparation for the race. "A good water environment is significant for dragon boat race, I hope the dragon boat race will get more prosperous in the future," said Liang.
