Increase of Hong Kong Students in Foshan Prompts Educational Exchange for School Principals

At the beginning of the new year, Foshan Private Education Association organized more than 30 members to visit six campus in Hong Kong, including the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Education University of Hong Kong.



During the visit, the exchange groupvisited the campus, learned about the history and achievements of each school, and discussed how Foshan students plan to pursue further studies in Hong Kong.


In recent years, the number of Hong Kong and Macao students in Foshan has been increasing, as the livable environment and convenient transportation attracts more and more studentsfrom Hong Kong and Macao to live in Foshan. In addition, Hong Kong, which gathers Asian top educational resources, has become a popular destination for many Chinese mainland students.


According to the director of the Hong Kong University of Education, the number of Chinese mainland students enrolled in Hong Kong in 2021 has reached 37,087, which saw year-on-year rises of 19.16percentcompared to2020. The proportion of students enrolled in Hong Kong and Chinese mainland cooperation undergraduate programs in the 2023-2024 academic year has increased to nearly 70%.The average starting salary of graduates from the University of Education is as high as 33,516 Hong Kong dollars (about 30,000 RMB), and they can apply for Hong Kong residency after living in Hong Kong for seven consecutive years. Dr Ling from the School of Science at the University of Hong Kong said that Chinese mainland students are hardworking and diligent, whoare welcomed by Hong Kong tutors.



During this visit, the Foshaneducational community was deeply impressed by the teaching conceptof Hong Kong schools. Zhang Ye, principal of Foshan Hong Kong and Macao Children's School, said that the school is the first Hong Kong-Macao children's school in Foshan, carrying the task of more education integration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and will continue to bring high-quality Hong Kong-style education concepts to Foshan in the future.


Wang Qianqian, president of Foshan Private Education Association, said that Hong Kong has five of the world's top 100 universities. The Association will organize a series of activities to promote the two-way communicationof education in the Greater Bay Area, gather the strength of private education, and better serve the units and Foshan citizens.
