On July 3rd, the "Innovation creates New Quality · Intelligence determines the Future" Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing Technology Industry Integration and Exchange Conference and the Docking Event of Technology Achievement Transformation were held in Zhaoqing. Nearly 200 representatives and experts from research service platforms and enterprises related to these three regions' automotive and intelligent manufacturing sectors participated. The event was co-hosted by the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Zhaoqing Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Foshan National Industrial Development Zone Management Committee, and Zhaoqing High Technology Industry Development Zone Management Committee.

This tri-regional technology achievement docking and exchange meeting, facilitated by the government, have attracted various enterprises and institutions, gathering multi-faceted resources including government, industry, academia, research, and finance. It achieved precise matching between technological achievements and industrial needs, heralding the integrated development of technology and industry across Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing. The strategic cooperation for the Intellectual Property Rights Synergistic Operation Center was established, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to cultivate new productive forces in these regions.

Government Facilitates Platform for Deep Cooperation in Industry and Technology Transformation between Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing

On May 26th, the operation of the Guangfo South Ring Line and Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway was officially launched, connecting Foshan, Guangzhou, Zhaoqing, Dongguan, and Huizhou through an intercity "four-line" network. This has accelerated the flow of technology supply, talent communication, and scientific achievements among these three regions

The event was held in a main venue with additional sub-venues, gathering experts, entrepreneurs, and representatives from various research platforms to push the cooperation among Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing towards broader areas.

Hu Xuejun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Management Committee of Foshan National Industrial Development Zone, introduced that with manufacturing being the foundation of the city and innovation being the soul of development, Foshan has a robust industrial base and a complete range of industrial categories. The city's industrial IP "Made in Foshan" is renowned globally. In 2023, Foshan achieved two breakthroughs: the first is cultivating over 10,000 high-tech enterprises; the second is breaking 3 trillion yuan in the total industrial output value of large-scale industries, making Foshan the second city nationwide and the first at the provincial level to reach an "industrial 3 trillion" milestone.

Guangzhou boasts a developed high-end service industry and has significant advantages in heavy industries such as automotive, petrochemical, steel, and shipbuilding. Wu Hanrong, Deputy Director of Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and Director of the Bureau of Guangzhou Foreign Experts Affairs, stated that Guangzhou focuses on the entire chain of "scientific discovery, technological invention, industrial development, talent support, and ecological optimization."

Particularly in the integration of science and technology industries and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, Guangzhou actively builds various innovative platforms and carriers, strengthening cooperation and exchanges with domestic and international universities and research institutions to promote the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements.

Zhaoqing High Technology Industry Development Zone has initially formed a "dual new" industry represented by XPeng Motors in new energy intelligent vehicles and CATL in new energy storage, alongside distinctive industrial clusters in home building materials, food and beverages, and biopharmaceuticals.

The deep historical connections, cultural communications, and emotional integration among Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing, coupled with their unique advantages in technological innovation and industrial upgrading, provide a solid foundation and broad space for cooperation. These regions are poised to become significant forces in technological innovation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Zong Yafeng, Director of Zhaoqing Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Zhaoqing High Technology Industry Development Zone, expressed that this event is just the beginning. In the future, it will gather more forces from the three regions to provide more services for enterprise development and enhance the exchange and cooperation among enterprises across these areas.

Enterprises Take the Stage: Precise Matching of Supply and Demand Across Three Regions

To ensure the success of this event, Foshan National Industrial Development Zone invited 20 local enterprises and sci-tech platforms, including FAW-Volkswagen, Honda Components, Xianhu Laboratory, and Huashu Robot, to participate. Representatives from these enterprises and platforms gathered with counterparts from Guangzhou and Zhaoqing, to discuss how to further unleash the potential of technological innovation and promote the deep integration of the tech industries across the three regions.　

At the sub-venue's supply and demand matchmaking meeting, enterprises from the automotive components and intelligent manufacturing sectors from Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing precisely presented their needs and the solutions they could offer.

Among them, Foshan Golden Source Precision Manufacturing Co., Ltd., which has specialized in the high-precision, high-strength aluminum alloy products field for over 30 years, expressed its desire to expand the customer base with respect to special high-strength aluminum alloy profiles and their precision processing, welding, and surface treatment services. The company also seeks to deepen cooperation with more universities and research institutions in industry-university-research and achievement transformation.

"The special high-strength aluminum alloy tubes used in the contact networks for domestic high-speed railways operating over 350 km/h are primarily produced by our company," explained Xie Haiqing, Sales Manager at Foshan Golden Source Precision Manufacturing Co., Ltd. The company also supplies special high-strength aluminum alloy materials and components to automakers such as Toyota, Honda, and Nissan, as well as enterprises like Huawei, ZTE, and Comba Telecom.

Chen Weihua, Senior Sales Manager at Foshan Feixi Robotics Co., Ltd., highlighted the company's adaptive robot solutions at the meeting. After eight years of development, Feixi Robotics has become a global leader in humanoid general-purpose intelligent robots, a unicorn enterprise with over $300 million in financing, with its core team originating from Stanford University's robotics and artificial intelligence lab.

To promote a deeper understanding between enterprises and lead technology and businesses towards the market, representatives from enterprises and institutions across Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing visited XPeng Motors' Zhaoqing base and FAW-Volkswagen's Foshan branch for exchanges.

Enhancing Quality to Ensure Coordinated Innovation Development with High-Quality Services

At the event, relevant research platforms and enterprises signed strategic cooperation agreements to promote the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements. Additionally, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing held a strategic cooperation agreement signing ceremony for a collaborative intellectual property operation center. This signifies a new milestone in their cooperation in intellectual property, technology transfer, and integrated industrial development.

The event not only established seamless connections between enterprises from the three regions but also demonstrated their determination and confidence in jointly advancing the high-end manufacturing sector in the Pearl River Delta. Hu Xuejun expressed the hope that this event would foster the integration and seamless connection of innovation resources and entities across Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing, thereby promoting coordinated industrial development and enhancing the level of innovative development.

Promoting industrial cooperation and the docking of technology transfer is crucial for the integrated development of Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing. Foshan National Industrial Development Zone is well-positioned and experienced in this regard. In 2023, the total industrial output value of Foshan National Industrial Development Zone's regulated enterprises reached 462.346 billion yuan, with a 90% local industrial supporting rate in major industries, showcasing strong industrial foundations and significant aggregation effects. Foshan National Industrial Development Zone also boasts 23 national incubators, 20 maker spaces registered with the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 28 national-level R&D institutions, having consecutively hosted the "National Sci-tech Achievement Express" for five years, demonstrating strong innovation-driven development momentum.
