The under-construction segment of Foshan Metro Line 3 will begin trial operations on August 23. Two sections will open simultaneously: from Zhen'an Station to Zhongshan Park Station and from Lianhe Station to Foshan University Station.
A New Boost to the North-South Artery
On December 28, 2022, the first section of Line 3 opened for initial operation, bringing more key areas of Foshan into the metro network's reach. The under-construction segment of Line 3 starts from Zhen'an Station in the south and extends to Foshan University Station in the north, connecting the districts of Chancheng and Nanhai. The total length of the line is approximately 25.85 kilometers, featuring 15 stations.
Once integrated with the first section of Line 3, it will form a metro network in the city center, linking with the Guangfo Line, Metro Line 2, and the Guangzhao Intercity Railway. This will play a significant role in upgrading Foshan's rail transit network, improving travel efficiency for residents, and solidifying the rail infrastructure in Foshan.
Yang Liangyi, Deputy Director of Foshan Rail Transit Bureau, stated that the phased opening is based on a comprehensive assessment of the construction risks at Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway Foshan Station. The excavation work at the Foshan Station and the construction of the Wenchang Tunnel would have a significant impact on the operation between Dunhou Station and Lianhe Station. Therefore, a phased opening plan was adopted to ensure operational safety and efficiency, while also providing new public transportation options for residents along the route.
Convenient Metro and Bus Connections
The newly opened segment of Foshan Metro Line 3 includes 13 stations, with 29 bus stops set up in consideration of the surrounding conditions to create convenient and smooth connections. The bus routes have been optimized, with 82 bus lines complementing the metro, enhancing public transportation to Foshan West Station and Foshan Airport, and strengthening connections between the rail line and the central districts of Chancheng and Guicheng. It also extends public transportation coverage to towns and streets in Nanhai District, such as Danzao, Shishan, and Guanyao.
Additionally, given the special circumstances of the segmented opening of Metro Line 3, six bus lines, including G1, G12, and K203, have been set up at Lianhe Station to connect with the Guangfo Line. Another four bus lines, including 286 and K202, have been arranged to connect the Zhongshan Park to Shunde College segment of Metro Line 3, with one special shuttle line linking Lianhe Station to Zhongshan Park Station to enhance connections between metro stations.
These bus lines will begin operation in conjunction with the opening of the under-construction segment of Metro Line 3.
Comprehensive Operational Support Services
Regarding fares, the pricing on the Foshan metro network is based on mileage. Under the segmented simultaneous opening model, the fare for a single trip from Shunde College Station to Zhongshan Park Station on Line 3 is 9 yuan, and from Lianhe Station to Foshan University Station, it is 5 yuan.
In terms of train frequency and operating hours, the "Shunde College Station to Zhongshan Park Station" route takes 62 minutes for a single trip, with different intervals set for peak, off-peak, and low-peak hours. The "Lianhe Station to Foshan University Station" route takes 21 minutes for a single trip, with a train interval of 9 minutes.
