On June 26, the new campus of Foshan Second People's Hospital, located in the Lvdao Lake area of Chancheng District, passed its final inspection. It is expected to start trial operation by the end of this year.
The Lvdao Lake campus of Foshan Second People's Hospital is a key provincial construction project. It is located at the intersection of Chancheng District's Changang Road and Hongde North Road, adjacent to Lvdao Lake. The hospital is positioned as a large, modern tertiary comprehensive A-class hospital, serving the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The project covers an area of 120 mu, with a total construction area of approximately 273,100 square meters. The total investment achieves 3.375 billion yuan. It is designed with 1,200 beds, with extendable capacity of 1,800 beds, which is able to handle an outpatient volume of 10,000 people per day. The hospital will have 41 ICU beds, 30 CCU beds, and 31 operating rooms, including one for robotic surgery, one hybrid operating room, and nine ophthalmic surgery rooms. Additionally, it will be equipped with a radioimmunoassay laboratory, one ECT, one PET-CT, and three radionuclide wards, as well as two linear accelerators.
Regarding its external appearance, the newly completed Lvdao Lake campus of Foshan Second People's Hospital features a design inspired by flowing water for its base buildings and a dragon boat shape for its towers, creating a "waterfront dragon boat" architecture. The interior decoration predominantly uses wood textures, creating a comfortable and relaxing medical environment.
Trial Operation by Year-End, Including a Dedicated Ophthalmology Building
During the trial period, all specialties will open outpatient services in the new campus, including emergency, ophthalmology, optometry, dentistry, otorhinolaryngology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, traditional Chinese medicine, and rehabilitation medicine. The 1,200 inpatient beds will be gradually opened to the public, providing comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services to patients.
Ophthalmology is a key specialty of the Second People's Hospital, recognized as a Guangdong provincial clinical key specialty and included in the first batch of national key specialty cultivation projects by the National Health and Family Planning Commission. The Lvdao Lake campus will feature a standalone ophthalmology building, integrating outpatient services, functional examinations, an optometry center, and inpatient services, equipped with top domestic and international ophthalmology equipment. The goal is to establish Foshan Ophthalmology Hospital as a national clinical key specialty, creating a first-class ophthalmology center meeting the eye health needs of all age groups.
Doubling High-Quality Medical Resources with "One Hospital, Two Campuses"
With the new "one hospital, two campuses" model, the Lvdao Lake campus and Weiguo Road campus will adhere to homogenized management, medical services, and quality, achieving resource sharing, complementary advantages, and coordinated development.
Homogenization emphasizes uniform development in management efficiency, medical quality, and service levels. The new campus will address existing shortcomings, such as limitations in treating malignant tumors due to space constraints and lack of radiotherapy equipment at the Weiguo Road campus. The Lvdao Lake campus will include departments of radiotherapy and nuclear medicine, introducing radiotherapy equipment and leading experts to establish an oncology center.
Notably, the new campus incorporates the concept of a smart hospital, introducing intelligent facilities such as a smart diagnosis system, bedside smart interactive terminals, and automatic dispensing machines. It also innovatively applies 5G network technology, setting up a composite smart logistics system combining pneumatic logistics, medium-sized box logistics, AGV robots, and waste laundry systems, providing efficient clinical diagnosis and services to the public.
Direct Metro Access and Ample Parking
For metro travel, the Foshan Metro Line 4 Lvdao Lake North Station exit leads directly to the hospital's basement level, achieving a direct connection between the metro station and the hospital.
For bus travel, a bus hub is planned on the east side of the campus, scheduled for completion in July 2024, with a pedestrian bridge on the second floor of the hub connecting to the new campus for convenience and safety.
To address parking difficulties, the new campus will have 960 parking spaces, with the bus hub offering an additional 700 parking spaces from the second to fifth floors, including charging station slots, with a maximum capacity of 1,000 parking spaces.
