In the Guangdong Innovation Development Convention, Wu Pingping got the first prize, representing Keen Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd

The Guangdong Innovation Development Convention was held in Guangzhou on Feb. 7th. 12 scientific and technological achievements in Foshan won the Guangdong S & T Awards in 2016, ranking third in Guangdong Province. The number of Guangdong high-tech enterprises reached 19,857, ranking first in China.

All 12 award-winning projects are achieved by companies, which demonstrates the enterprise-centered characteristic of innovation in Foshan. For example, the “Marine Oil Self-elevating Drilling Platform Jacking System” project developed by Keen Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd won the first prize. Guangdong Midea Refrigeration Plant CO., LTD won two awards. The “Study and Industrialize Key Technologies of Intelligent Air Conditioner” project won the second prize and the “Study and Application of New Efficient Compounding Purification Technics” project won the third prize.

At Panjin Newport pier, self-elevating drilling platform DSJ300-L2 installed with the jacking system and locking device developed by KOE finished the up-and-down test.

As revealed by the data, the number of high-tech enterprises in the Pearl River Delta area has reached 18,880 in 2016, increasing 78.8% compared to 2015. Shenzhen and Guangzhou play a leading role in the number, having 8,037 and 4,744 enterprises respectively. The number of high-tech enterprises in Guangzhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, etc. has raised over 100% rapidly. Under the powerful engine of “innovation drive”, Guangdong has improved its capability of independent innovation quickly.

In the convention, Lu Yi, the secretary of Foshan municipal Party committee introduced the progress of promoting innovation development and the plan in 2017. In 2016, the gross domestic product(GDP) in Foshan was 863 billion with an increase of 8.3%. The contribution rate of scientific and technological progress was estimated to exceed 56%. The added value of high-tech industry was estimated to take up 7.5% of total industrial output value above designated size while the output value of high-tech products 40%. The self- sufficiency rate of technology was estimated to be over 85%. The effect of breeding Foshan high-tech enterprises turned out to be distinct in 2016. There were about 1,388 high-tech enterprises in Foshan in total, increasing by 93.6% and 30 provincial-level new research and development institutions, ranking second in Guangdong. In terms of technology improvement, the amount of investment and number of enterprises in Foshan ranked first in Guangdong.

Lu Yi said that in 2017 Foshan will establish “a center” (the national manufacturing industry innovation center) and highlight “two key points” (the Pearl River Delta national independent innovation demonstration area construction and national manufacturing industry transformation and upgrading model city construction) to promote innovation development, aiming to provide strong support to the construction of a high-level national scientific and technological industry innovation center in Guangdong.
