On February 8, in the workshop of Guangdong Tai Yi Precision Machinery Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as “Taiyi”), the high-speed auto inspection project for cardboard was conducting acceptance test. Illustrated by Huang Guoheng, the associate professor of School of Computer Science, Guangdong University of Technology, it has incorporated real-time detection, enabling the inspection of 200 pieces of cardboard in 60 seconds.

Settled in Sanshui for nearly ten years, Taiyi is specialised in the production of automatic cardboard printing equipment. Recently, Taiyi has increased its investment in innovation and digital intelligence, aiming to promote the update and reform of manufacturing industry.

Breakthrough: detect 200 pieces of cardboard in 60s

Stated by Huang Guoheng, this technique is believed to be the leading method that first invented in Guangdong Province to detect flaws that are hardly recognised by human eyes.

Historically, the loss caused by the manual detection error has been the crucial issue for enterprises in printing industry.

In 2022, with the support from Economic and Technological Promotion Bureau of Sanshui District, Taiyi has worked closely with Guangdong University of Technology to solve this issue.

After over one year of research and development, this project has achieved significant breakthroughs in multiple areas, such as the high-resolution recognition of error, detection of complicated patterns, etc.

Nowadays, this project has applied for 11 invention patents and 2 software patents. The software has already passed by third party, with detection equipment ready by April, 2023.

R&D investment: implement digital intelligence

Commented by Luo Fuwen, deputy general manager and technical director, the number of employees required for one production line has reduced from 8 to 3 since the technique was implemented.

Taiyi has made extensive efforts in R&D over years, successfully recognized 6 invention patents. In 2022, it has invested 4.8% profit in R&D and cultivated a team of 52 researchers. Luo said, the implementation of digital intelligence has lowered the labour costs while doubled the production output.

In the first 6 months of 2022, Taiyi has introduced MES digital system in production, collecting visible figures in assisting managerial decision. Therefore, Taiyi has successfully reversed the descending trend in revenue via better profit margin in relatively stable price bracket.

In the future, Taiyi will continually take technology as the key driving factor in development, stimulating the development of digital intelligence in printing industry.
