Industrial Internet headquarter of Joyy Group settles in Sanlongwan
On February 8, 2021, a commercial service plot in the Nanhai Area of Foshan Sanlongwan High-end Innovation Cluster (hereinafter referred to as Sanlongwan) that covers an area of 77,716.68 square meters went on public bidding. Joyy Group won the bid for 705 million yuan. Surrounded by three waterways (Luweiqiao, Chencun and Huangjingchong Waterway), the plot is situated on both sides of Gangkou Road, Guicheng Street, Nanhai District. It serves as the central area of Wenhan Lake International Science and Technology Town in Sanlongwan, and originally, the plot was selected as the location of landmark "Guangfo Eye". The area is blessed with favorable conditions. Adjacent to Panhai Bridge, it locates in the interchange of Metro Line 4 and Line 11.
Initially, the plot was announced to be a hybrid area of both commerce and residence. In order to introduce headquarters of Internet companies, local government adjusted their planning – allowing the plot to be used for corporate headquarters buildings, talent apartments and supplementary business facilities.
Joyy Group looks to build the land into a headquarter of industrial internet, funded by an investment of at least 2.3 billion yuan. In the next 10 years, the project is expected to attract nearly 8,000 talents and create an annual turnover of at least 10 billion yuan for the company itself. Nanhai District will also gain taxation worth 330 million yuan. On top of that, Joyy’s landing in Sanlongwan will help gather upstream and downstream enterprises, with more than 30 enterprises in coming years to level up digital economy in Foshan.
Listed on NASDAQ in November 2012, Joyy entered Fortune China 500 list in 2020. In 2020, the company registered a turnover of nearly 20 billion yuan. Out of 7,000 employees, 65% of them are personnel from R&D department. Joyy also takes the lead in the number of patent applications and authorizations as it ranks top 10 among all Chinese Internet companies in authorized patents.
After acquiring BIGO for nearly USD 2.2 billion in March 2019, Joyy has built more than 30 operation centers around the world. Many overseas products topped the list in global software downloads. In the future, by embracing technological innovation and industrial innovation, Joyy will forge ahead into the AI field.
As a pilot area for Guangzhou-Foshan high-quality integrated development , Sanlongwan (Nanhai area) has combined its regional conditions with geographical advantages. Following the14th Five-Year Plan and development outline for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the area gives full play to industrial cooperation in a way that boost Guangzhou-Foshan integration. The landing of Joyy is another milestone after Huyas global R&D headquarters in last November.
Thanks to its solid manufacturing industry, Foshan, especially Nanhai District, lays the groundwork for the cooperation in digital economy, which is also an important engine for traditional industrial upgrading in the GBA.
