Nanhai People's Hospital Tops Out New Research Building

On January 12, the research building of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of South China University of Technology (Nanhai District People's Hospital, Foshan) officially reached its pinnacle, marking a determined stride towards becoming a "high-level research-oriented hospital" and contributing to the high-quality development of healthcare in Nanhai.

In January 2021, the Nanhai government and South China University of Technology has signed a agreement, marking the commencement of collaboration between government and school. The agreement is that Nanhai District People's Hospital was added the brand of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of South China University of Technology, as well as the Sixth Clinical College of South China University of Technology.


Guan Ziyun, Head of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of South China University of Technology (Nanhai Hospital), provided details on the scene, revealing that the first-phase expansion project commenced construction in June 2022. With a total investment of 1.151 billion yuan, the project spans approximately 28,000 square meters of planned land.


The construction plan includes a research building with a floor area of 20,488 square meters, a comprehensive apartment building spanning approximately 52,000 square meters designed to facilitate seamless transitions between peace and wartime functions, and new projects such as the Zhiyuan Building and the Intelligent Distribution Center for Medical Fabrics. These initiatives aim to further advance the development of a high-level hospital.


The Research Building at the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of South China University of Technology (Nanhai Hospital) is a pivotal element in the district-university collaboration. The eight-story above-ground and one-story below-ground Research Building features a public instrument platform on the first floor, PI laboratories, zebrafish laboratories, a public cell platform, and a lecture hall on floors 2-6, and an animal experimentation center on floors 7-8. The project is expected to be completed and operational by the first half of 2025."

Long committed to the integrated development of healthcare and scientific innovation, the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of South China University of Technology (Nanhai Hospital) has consistently intensified efforts in research, yielding fruitful results. The hospital has been granted the title of a Guangdong Provincial Technology Expert Workstation, securing 1 Foshan Science and Technology Progress Award and 5 Nanhai District Science and Technology Progress Awards. It has been honored as a technological advanced unit by Nanhai District for multiple consecutive years.


In 2022, the hospital obtained approval for 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects. In 2023, it secured funding for 4 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation. Simultaneously, the hospital entered strategic cooperation agreements with several technology research companies, facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration, integration, and penetration. The Neurosurgery Applied Anatomy Laboratory is now operational, establishing a regional center for innovation of clinical translation and skill training.


Furthermore, the Ministry of Education's Innovation Center for Development and Disease Medicine Basic Research has been established at the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of South China University of Technology (Nanhai Hospital), driving synergistic development in production, academia, research, and application. This facilitates the translation and implementation of numerous clinical research projects in Nanhai.


Presently, collaborative research between South China University of Technology and the hospital has successfully secured a key project grant from the National Natural Science Foundation, advancing research in cardiovascular diseases.

This initiative aims to propel the hospital into a comprehensive, high-quality, and transformative development, marking a significant leap forward in all aspects.
