On May 7th, a media press of Cantonese Opera Shi-san Lang Nanhai was held in Foshan Media Group, Inc. Shi-san Lang Nanhai is a modified version as Foshan Cantonese Opera Theatre, Radio Foshan partnered up with the original crew. The first two shows will be held at 8pm on July 14th and July 15th at Foshan Qionghua Grand Theatre.
It comes from Shi-san Lang Nanhai, a stage play, which has been performed over 150 times since its debut in 1993. In 1997, the movie version has won several awards like Golden Horse Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards.
The opera portrays the life of Shi-san Lang in the 20th century, one famous Cantonese Opera composer in Nanhai.
Gao Zhisen, the director, comments that the story emphasises the close bound between individual life and national destiny.
Shi-san Lang Nanhai will be held at 8pm on both July 14th and July 15th in Foshan Qionghua Grand Theatre. After three shows in Hong Kong in December, it will embark on a national tour.
