Stunning Ice Ballet Stages at Foshan Grand Theatre
Foshan China 2023-09-14 17:02

From September 14 to 17, over 40 ice ballet stars will perform classical fairy-tale ballet shows at the Foshan Grand Theatre, presenting delightful and refreshing performances for audiences in Foshan.

The ice stage covers an area over 100 square meters, which required 24 hours making time. The superb combination of elegance and dynamism features complex lifts, spins, jumps... All the eye-dazzling ballet techniques you can imagine are showcased in the ice ballet performance.

The ice ballet shows will be performed by Saint-Petersburg State Ballet on Ice. Founded in 1967, the troupe is the only performance group in the world capable of presenting the entire classical ballet on ice. With over 50 years of establishment, they have staged more than 5000 shows worldwide and gained popularity among audiences.

While typical ballet relies on pointe shoes, ice ballet is an art between the ice blade and the ice surface. In fact, ice ballet requires performers to master skills of higher difficulty than that of the regular ballet. Notably, some performers in the show are former champions of figure skating in competitions of Russia and even the world.

Generally, in figure skating, the longest performance time does not exceed 5 minutes, whereas a complete ballet performance lasts no less than 90 minutes. On a limited theater stage, performers face challenges of executing skillful ballet techniques such as jumps, steps, lifts, and spins on ice. Ice ballet is not only a combination of figure skating and ballet but also incorporates Russian folk dancers and other forms of dance, making it truly a visual feast.

Moreover, a splendid classical costume show will be displayed to audiences. Over 100 sets of exquisite costumes worth millions of dollars will be showcased.

The costumes for the performances, although reflecting European styles from the 19th century like regular ballet costumes, are designed to be short and convenient, which are better suited for dances to skate and perform on ice.

In addition, the ice surface used for ice ballet requires greater hardness than a regular ice rink, as it needs to withstand the performers' jumps, lifts, and other movements, as well as dozens of dancers simultaneously performing on the stage.
