"Datang Winter Melon King is born! 59.32 kg!" On August 3, the 13th Winter Melon King Competition was held at the Jinnong Agricultural Park in the Modern Agricultural Park (Central Park) of Datang Town. This event was part of the Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Games (Foshan Station) and the2024 Datang Healthy Living Festival in Sanshui District.

Asthe first launch event of the Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Games,Foshan Station has arranged three winter melon-themed fun sports activities. By combining "agriculture + sports," the event created anappealingsocial atmosphere encouraging public participation in agricultural activities, allowing citizensto enjoy the beauty and joy of rural life.

Datang Winter Melon King Selection

This year's Winter Melon King Competition saw 16 candidate melons competing for the final title. Notably, the 16 participating winter melons were paired with 16 Chinese advantageous sports events, adding vivid, creative, and interesting elements to the competition in the name of the Olympics.

Eventually,a winter melon weighing 59.32 kg, grown by Li Jianhai, a farmer from Xintian Village, won the 13th Winter Melon King title! Meanwhile, three of the winning melons were auctioned on the spot, raising a total of 134,000 yuan for Datang's poverty alleviation and educational support programs.

Special Delicacies

At the event, visitors could explore stalls at the winter melon food market. Fun games were also set up, allowing citizens to appreciate Datang's black-skinned winter melons while tasting local specialties and enjoying the festivities.

"Twelve Melon Flavors 2.0" Launched

Star chef Wu Rongkai, Foshan's "Master Chef Competition" winner,also upgraded the original "Twelve Melon Flavors" dishes, such as River Fresh Winter Melon Boat and Hundred Flowers Stuffed Melon Ring, and launched "Twelve Melon Flavors 2.0."
