Foshan cake moulding techniques staged in Liangyuan

Cake moulding techniques, with a history of more than 300 years in Foshan, has become a key intangible cultural heritage locally. Technically speaking, a moulding allows tons of patterns and images can be pressed on the surface of a cake.

 

 

Cake moulding has been historically applied to many sorts of cakes, like moon cake, almond cake, Fogong cake, Piglet cake and more. Cake moulding has been very popular among bakers, restaurants, hotels and households.

 

 

To honor this traditional arts,  Chancheng District Museum, in cooperation with Guangzhou Liwan District Museum, will stage more than 120 cake prints from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to modern days, with some made of wood, pottery, tin and iron, serving as a strong reflection of Lingnan culture.
