On June 15 and 16, the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Championships were held at Victoria Harbour in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong SAR. The Jiujiang men's and women's dragon boat teams continued their outstanding performance, winning four gold medals.
More than 170 teams and over 4,000 dragon boat athletes from 12 countries and regions, including mainland China, Thailand, and Indonesia, have participated in the 2024 Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Championships.
On June 15, two representative teams from Nanhai Jiujiang (Jiujiang Shuangzheng Women's Dragon Boat Team and Guangdong Yi’ao Group Dragon Boat Team) competed in the 500-meter Women's Straight Race and the 500-meter Mixed Straight Race respectively. After intense competition, both teams have won the championships in their respective events.
During the Golden Cup races held on June 16, the two Jiujiang teams continued to excel, overcoming their opponents with significant margins to win the championships. Over the two-day event, the Jiujiang Dragon Boat Team obtained four gold medals, making them the biggest winners of the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Invitational.
"Victoria Harbour has always been known for its rough waters, which is quiet challenging for our young team members. Although they lack experience in such conditions, they have overcome and achieved great results over the past two days. They did make remarkable effort," said Zhu Wenquan, the leader of the Jiujiang Dragon Boat Team. He added that these excellent results are the best reward for the team's hard daily training.
