猪仔饼 Pig cake

 

 

用面粉和糖浆做成的“猪仔饼”,又称“猪笼饼”。除了月饼,传统的猪仔饼对于老一辈佛山人来说是一个珍贵的记忆。

"Pig cake" made of flour and syrup, also known as "Pig cage cake". In addition to moon cakes, the traditional pig cake is a precious memory for the Foshan older generation.

  

小猪的造型,穿上红头绳挂在颈上,有的还可以装入“微型”的小猪笼,既可以玩,又可以当摆设。小时候看着月饼铺里那一个个猪笼饼,口水直流!

A red line is “put on” the neck of the pig and some of them are also put into the mini pig cage. They can be a toy for children or used as decoration. It makes children mouth water when seeing the pig cake in the shop.

 

 

“猪仔饼”寓意小孩白白胖胖,如小猪般容易带,容易养。虽然随着时代变迁,猪仔饼的身影逐渐淡出了人们的视线。可是每到中秋节,对猪仔饼的记忆总会浮现在心头。

"Pig cake" means that children are white and fat, as easy as a pig to bring up. Although with the change of times, pig cake gradually fades out of peoples sight. But during every Mid-Autumn Festival, the memory of pig cake always comes to mind.

 

 

田螺 Field snail

 

 

田螺是佛山人过中秋节必不可少的一道美味。一边赏月,一边拼命啜的情景是不是似曾相识?

Field snail is an essential food of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Do you still remember the scene of enjoying the moonlight while eating the field snail at the same time?

 

 

俗话说“无得食,问田螺(罗)”,中秋吃田螺,寓意着丰收之意。

As the saying goes, "if there is no food, ask the field (snail)". Eating field snail during the Mid-Autumn Festival has the meaning of good harvest.

  

紫苏炒田螺更让人情有独钟,一啜就出来的田螺肉,混着紫苏特有的香味,真的十分过瘾!

Purple perilla fried field snail is more popular among people. The meat sipping out of the field snail is mixed with the fragrance of purple perilla, which is really enjoying!

 

 

吃菱角 Waternut

 

 

现在许多小朋友可能都没见过菱角。菱角有着清新的甜、浓郁的香。

Many children probably haven’t seen the waternut yet. Waternut has fresh sweetness and rich fragrance.

佛山人吃菱角,一般用水煮,也有人做成菱角粥。中秋给小孩吃菱角就寄托着大人们希望他们“聪明伶俐”的祝福。

Foshan people usually boil waternut with water, and some of them make it into porridge. Children eating waternut during the Mid-Autumn Festival represents a blessing of “being smart”.

中秋节将剥了壳的菱角切成粒状煮成粥,赏月吃过月饼之后食用,喝上一碗菱角粥,一扫胃中的油腻。

In the Mid-Autumn Festival, the waternut is cut into slices and made into porridge. A bowl of waternut porridge after the moon cake can help clean up the grease in the stomach.

 

 

吃芋头 Eating taro

 

 

高明、三水等地在中秋节还有吃芋头的传统,芋头有大有小,中秋两种芋头一起吃,寓意着母子团聚。

There is a traditional custom of eating taro in Gaoming and Sanshui District. Taro has big and small ones, and eating both of the two sizes of taro implies family reunion.

 

而粤语“芋头”又与“护头”谐音,一家人一起吃芋头表示合家团圆平安的意思,同时吃芋头寓意辟邪消灾。

In addition, the Cantonese "Taro" is in harmony with the "护头(protecting the head)", and the family eating the taro together has the meaning of family reunion and eliminating the evil.

 

 

各种水果 Various fruits

 

 

中秋,有很多的水果,对于佛山人来说,又有着不同寓意。

People eat many kinds of fruits during the Mid-Autumn Festival. For Foshan people, different fruits represent different meanings.

 

 

甘蔗 Sugar cane

甘蔗一节节,很是粗壮。中秋节吃甘蔗,寓意一年到头都很结实,身体健壮。

Sugar cane has many joints and it seems very “strong”. Eating sugar cane during the Mid-Autumn Festival means a strong body all year round.

 

柚子 Pomelo

中秋时节柚子正当时,“柚”与粤语“佑”谐音,有着“祈祷”的意思。

Pomelo is a seasonal fruit during the Mid-Autumn Festival. “柚” is in harmony with “佑”, which has the meaning of blessing.

 

心灵手巧的老佛山人,还会把中秋宴上吃剩的柚子皮做成一个柚子灯笼!不知道你有没有弄过呢?
