In a proud moment for Guangdong, the Guangdong Flying Disc team, formed with the assistance of Shunde Flying Disc Association, won the championship in the recently concluded 2023 National Flying Disc Championship.

This is the first time that Guangdong participated in the national championship, and they faced tough challenges throughout the tournament. For the participating athletes, this event offered a professional platform to showcase their skills. Moreover, it highlighted the true essence and spirit behind flying disc as a sport.

The thrilling three-day championship concluded on July 16 with the Guangdong team claiming the champion.

A total of 22 teams and over 600 athletes from across the nation competed in the championship, which featured a seven-player mixed team format. The teams scored points by successfully passing the flying disc to designated areas, and the winning team either reached 13 points first or had a higher score when the time ran out.

The Guangdong team secured the championship after defeating the Beijing team with a score of 12:7.

The final match was a gripping contest with both teams displaying extraordinary athleticism and coordination. Notably, Guangdong team's player, Liang Yilun, made a game-changing move, intercepting the opponent's disc with a skillful Lay D technique (intercept opponent's frisbee catch). This pivotal play turned the tide in their favor, leading to a remarkable three-point streak.

The Guangdong team's success was a testament to their dedication and hard work. Each team member played a crucial role, contributing to their triumph and the joy of victory.

Looking ahead, the achievements of the 2023 National Flying Disc Championship will serve as the basis for selecting members of the national training team for the upcoming Asia-Oceania Flying Disc Championship in Manila, Philippines, in September. This offers an exciting opportunity for the Guangdong team members to represent their country for honor and triumph.
