On September 6, the pouring of the pier cap #479 of the Foshan Super Large Xijiang Bridge (hereinafter referred to as "Xijiang Bridge"), constructed by China Railway Guangzhou Engineering Group, was completed. This milestone marks a major advancement in the construction of the Xijiang Bridge.
Xijiang Bridge consists of three main piers. The pier cap of pier #479, located near the Gaoming shore of the Xijiang River, is the second main pier of the Bridge. This main pier is situated in the middle of the Xijiang River channel, with a maximum water depth of 24 meters. As the Xijiang River is a Class I waterway with busy water traffic, the construction team encountered great difficulty in minimizing the impact on navigation during construction. To address this challenge, the project team adopted an innovative approach by utilizing an independent steel platform in the water, with all the necessary materials and equipment transported by vessels.
To ensure the smooth pouring of the pier cap concrete, the project team collaborated with the maritime and waterway departments. Measures, such as activating a 24-hour VHF warning system on patrol boats, appointing dedicated lookout personnel, and installing additional nighttime warning lights, were implemented to ensure the safety of waterway navigation.
The newly constructed Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway starts from Guangzhou Station, passes through Foshan, Zhaoqing, Yunfu, Yangjiang, Maoming, and ends at Zhanjiang North Station. With a double-track length of 400.1 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, it is the most complex railway project with the highest standard, longest route and largest investment in the history of Guangdong Province.
It is also an important component of the China's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network. Serving as an intercity connection between the Pearl River Delta and western Guangdong, the railway will enable a 90-minute travel time between the central districts of Guangzhou and Zhanjiang after its completion. Meanwhile, it will become a vital part of the high-speed railway artery linking the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hainan Free Trade Port, and the Beibu Gulf Urban Agglomeration, highlighting significant importance for the overall economic and social development of the Gaoming district in Foshan and the western Guangdong region.
